In 1900 a sawmill was built on the site of the present day Old Mill at Islandview Resort. The sawmill changed hands many times and burned down twice. It was best known as The Johnston Mill and was in operation until the 1940s. Where you see the present day beach area is where in the early days steamers, which ran the lakes during the summer season, were pulled up on wooden ways for winter storage and repairs. In 1958 these steamers were stripped of all their hardware and burned on this same beach. To this day, we still find remaining pieces of these boats.
The staff of Lock 27 Tap & Grill at Islandview Resort hope you will enjoy your time spent here in the Kawarthas.
